Some information about me and how I work as well as qualifications and experience.
I am an experienced BACP registered and Accredited Counsellor and have been in practice since 1993.
My original training was with the Wessex Counselling Service, an affiliate member of the Westminster Pastoral Foundation. The core of this training followed psychoanalytic and Jungian models and an integral part of this training was an in-depth experience of therapy over several years.
I have been interested in the connections between our emotional life and our physical bodies for many years. Before embarking on therapeutic training I was involved in research into the hormone cortisol - now commonly known as the stress hormone.
This experience has added to my understanding of how mind and body are intimately linked. Reflecting on this has led me to incorporate elements of Mindfulness into my work. The practice of Mindfulness places greater emphasis upon being aware of our emotions as they are felt in our body. This can help in slowing us down from an over-anxious rush to find a quick answer and may enable us to face what we encounter in ourselves with less fear and anxiety.
I have also been involved in education: in schools teaching science and music; with a Musical Educational Trust in the 90s working with toddlers and their parents encouraging communication with music; and as a seminar leader on counselling and psychotherapy courses from 2008 - 2013.
As well as supervising therapists involved in the "talking" therapies. I continue to be interested in developing links with arts therapists and have experience of supervising music therapists.
My work is supervised in accordance with the code of ethics of BACP and I am subject to its complaints procedures.
